Aqua Medic Solenoid Valve

The Aqua Medic Solenoid Valve is an electronic solenoid valve for CO2, and has a high quality nickel plated brass body with a maximum operating pressure of 4 bar / 60 psi, pressure fittings for flexible hose and can be connected to all CO2 units. The solenoid coil consumes only 2.5W preventing overheating. It operates using a power source of 220V.

Use a digital timer to start the CO2 injection 2 hours prior to switching the lights on. Stop the CO2 injection at the same time as the lights switch off. This will prevent high (above 30 ppm) CO2 levels during the night which can harm the fish and shrimp. Without the use of a solenoid valve it is practically impossible to maintain properly high CO2 levels during the day - when plants need the carbon for their photosynthesis. Solenoid Valves also help us conserve the CO2 by switching it off during the night.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Function: 2/2 directions, non-current carrying connection
  • Material: brass, chrome plated
  • Nominal width. 2 mm
  • Operating pressure: 0-4 bar, 0-60 psi
  • Medium: CO2 gas
  • Connection: flexible hose 4/6 mm.
  • Voltage: 220 V, 50 Hz
  • Power consumption: 2.5 Watts
  • Operating factor: 100%

INSTALLATION SET UP:

The solenoid valve is pre mounted and tested. It must only be integrated into the CO2 system. On the body of the valve, you find an arrow, that indicates the direction of the flow. First the hose is mounted on the inlet:

Unscrew the knurled nut from the CO2 connection (4)

Slide the knurled nut over the flexible pressure tube (4/6 mm)

Slide the end of the tube over the nipple (4)

Screw the knurled nut onto the nipple and tighten.

Mount the other end of the flexible tube onto the pressure outlet of the pressure regulator (pressure reducer) and tighten.

Now a tube is mounted in the same way on the outlet. Here, you do not need to use a pressure tube, you may use ordinary pvc-tube (4/6 mm)

The free end is connected to the bubble counter inlet or the the CO2 inlet.

If you use a pressure regulator with adjustable operating pressure, set it to 1-1.5 bar (14-20 psi)

NOTE:

Always use a non return valve (check valve) between the aquarium and the solenoid valve. It prevents water from flowing back from the aquarium into the regulator and the CO2 bottle and causing damage.

OPERATING WITH TIMER:

The CO2 consumption during the day (light phase) is determined primarily by the plants. In the night (dark phase) the plants exrete CO2 gas. So it is not necessary to provide CO2 during the night time, it may even be harmful to fish and shrimp. The solenoid valve can be linked to a timer to meet these specific requirements. Always turn the CO2 gas injection on at least 2 hours before the lights to ensure the proper levels at the beginning of the light phase. CO2 is dissolved relatively slowly into the water. The valve is then switched off together with the light.
